Winter fitness activities for kids

Even when it gets cold outside that is not an excuse to sit around and do nothing. Getting off the couch and moving around not only burns calories but keeps you warm.

Some outdoor winter fitness activities for kids involve snow. If there is snow outside take the time to go sledding. Burn calories climbing back up the hill after sliding down from it. Build forts, snowmen and have a snowball fight to get hearts’ racing. Try snow shoeing. Snow shoeing is hiking in the snow. You can also run or chase people doing this activity. Skiing is a fun and physical activity. Choose between cross-country and downhill skiing. Both are easy to try and fun not just for the children but for the whole family. Another way to have fun and burn calories is ice skating. Skate at a skating rink indoors or outdoors and start skating.

Some indoor winter fitness activities for kids include video games like Nintendo Wii. Those games get you involved to move around and get a workout at the same time. Go to another place indoors and join a basketball or soccer team. Go to dance classes, swim indoors or join gymnastics to burn off energy. Get creative at home and play old fashioned games like hide-and-seek, play board games like Twister or make an obstacle course out of pillows, chairs and tables.

You can have fun even during the darkest hours of winter. There’s no time like the present to get up and have fun.
